Breadth #3 - Foreshortened Figure w/Objects
Objective:
- Learn to draw objects in perspective.
- Recognize the use of darks and lights to show how distance in a scene.
- Create a foreshortened drawing that combines a mechanical and human element to it.
Essential Questions:
1) How do artists show objects in perspective?
2) What happens to objects as they get further away from you?
Materials:
Pencils, charcoal, paint, colored pencils, paper or canvas.
Procedure:
Look at a series of foreshortened images. Discuss what you see. You will be drawing a foreshortened picture that holds a mechanical and human element to it. Draw a minimum of two thumbnail sketches of what you see. You can take a photograph of the scene to help you map it out, if needed.
Make sure to look at the perspective and scale of the objects (head vs. shoes). What is larger? Smaller? What happens to objects as they get further away from you? Tape down 12x18 paper onto a drawing board. Start sketching out lightly what you see. Start drawing the image with the your choice of media until completed.
*Remember that when you are drawing your objects that they do not go too far up the page. Carefully look at the distance and map out what you see.
